Journal 3

Upon looking at the ELA technology standards for the third grade, I initially felt overwhelmed by the amount of standards and the information stated within the requirements. After reading each requirement, I did find that there were some requirements that I actually feel prepared to teach. For instance, I believe I posses the ability to use features and search tools like, key words and hyperlinks to give my students to easily access any topic or assignments with ease. In addition, I find that I am prepared to utilize technology to produce and publish writing and communicate with others. While I do feel prepared for some standards, there are some requirements I need to work on to further expand my knowledge and ability to teach successful students. An example of a standard I need to work on is the ability to "demonstrate fluid reading at an understandable pace, adding visual displays and engaging audio recordings when appropriate to emphasize or enhance certain facts or details" as I am not proficient in engaging in audio recordings and overall using unique resources to teach.
In the the third grade CPALMS educator toolkit, the resource I personally think would be very interesting to incorporate into my classroom is the STEM in the subject of English and language. I think this resource is particularly interesting as I think that it is common for STEM to be affiliated with math and science, and therefore incorporating these would bring a different dimension of interest and fun into the classroom. The action of including STEM makes lessons and actvties stimulate copperation and innovative thinking which is an aspect that I will strive to incorporate into my classroom.
I learned a variety of skills from doing the newsletter that I never knew how to use before in all of my years with working with Microsoft word. The biggest thing I learned how to use is the column task which I know will come in handy a lot within the classroom when making flyers ans announcements. I found that this particular setting made the process of making the newsletter so much more efficient and easier. I also learned how to use the automatic date setting which I believe will be very beneficial in the future with whatever assignment I create as it automatically updates readers to the time frame in which they receive it. Overall, making the newsletter provided me with a lot of tools to become successful teacher who produces quality work.

  1. I'm interested in third grade too! That is the age group I mentor with for one of my other education courses. I think some of the resources CPALMS gives are helpful in teaching, especially with the variety of options.
